Harvest Festival

I do believe this is one of those days where no matter how hard I try to wake up, I just can't! I feel like I could crawl back in bed and sleep another hour or 2. Even after a walk with Taylor, eating breakfast, and doing laundry I feel like my brain keeps hitting the snooze button, haha.

Baby Dykman on the other hand (or should I say belly) has been moving around and kicking all morning. We will see if he/she is a morning person once they arrive in February. I have an appointment with my mid-wife later today and get to make my ultrasound appointment! Hopefully it will be soon (I'm hoping this week or next week), so we can find out if we have a he/she!

Saturday Russ and I went to Rippon Lodge's Harvest festival. Rippon Lodge is the oldest home here in this  county. It was built in 1747 and still has most of the original framing underneath all the drywall.

There was a lot of land around the house that had cabins, an old well, and a cemetery.

There were several booths set up to help represent things done how they were back in those days.

The wood carvings were pretty cool

Rides for the kids..

Here are a few pictures from the cemetery:

I love the short poem written on her stone.

I love him too =)

We took a tour of the old house which still had furniture and things from one of the occupants that lived there. He was a judge I think.

They had a few places in the floors and walls open/unfinished so we could see how it was built.

A fish bowl...

Oh and the volunteers all dressed in proper attire as you can see here. They showed how they made clothing and sewed quilts back then as well.

A local bluegrass band played on the front porch. This made me want to come home for the bluegrass festival, which is already over.

And then there was a booth/table set up that had foods from that era. It was all delicious! Cinnamon bread, shortbread cookies, tarts, pretzel bread, and fresh crabs from the nearby river.

Russell ate the crab, not me.

And sadly, this is the only picture I got of the BBQ we went to on Friday.

We went to this wonderful restaurant after the festival, Tim's River-shore Restaurant, which is literally on the river shore. We drove and drove and drove until we finally ran out of road. Then there it was.
We ate  outside overlooking the water.

View from our table.

We can't wait to go back. It is one of those places that if you've never heard of it, you probably would never find it.

Well it's time to eat some lunch, hope everyone is having a great start to their week!

Love you all and God Bless!

  1. Loved reading this. But you didn't say anything about the mud balls. Oh well at least you shared that with me. I really am looking forward to you and Russell finding out what this little football player is he or she. Either one it will be a great player, just think of how early in life it started practicing. Love all the pictures you posted and am looking forward to talking to you tomorrow. Love you bunches.
